Hawaii Extended Forecast Discussion NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 254 AM EDT Tue May 03 2022 Valid 00Z Wed May 04 2022 - 00Z Wed May 11 2022 Guidance still reasonably agrees that moderate to locally breezy mean trades will prevail this week as high pressure bridges to the north of the state. Meanwhile, mean upper troughing over the state should enhance instability and may prove slow to dislodge. This pattern will favor showers over windward and mountain areas, but with potential for some spillage into leeward areas. Blended precipitation water satellite loops show deeper moisture up into the state and flood advisories have already been issued for the southern islands. There is also some threat for wintry weather in this pattern over higher elevations of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea where there is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect. Trades may weaken in a drier pattern by later weekend into early next week as ample closed upper trough development over the mid-latitudes may drive a trailing cold front to the northwest of the state. Overall, predictability and continuity overall seem better than average for this forecast period. Schichtel
