Model Depiction of TropicalLarge Scale Vertical Motions
Notes:
Wind Barbs (Aqua), Convergence (Red), Divergence (Blue), Vertical Motion (Yellow Arrow).
This a cross section through a Northern Hemisphere TUTT Low over the NERN Caribbean. The vertically stacked low/trough extends above 500 hPa and along 68W. An area of low level convergence (SFC-700 hPa) extends between 19N 60W and 19N 64W, with upper divergence immediately above. This contributes to upward vertical motion as depicted by the yellow arrows.
Just W of the trough, an area of upper level convergence is evident above 400 hPa, located between 19N 68W and 19N 75W. This result in downward vertical motion/subsidence.
