Meso-Scale Convective Systems

• Typically develop between mid-Spring (October) and late-Fall (May).

• Favored Areas:

  • Bolivian Plateau (Altiplano), Argentina’s Gran Chaco, Paraguay

• Not common south of 35S, and over the central and eastern Amazon Basin.

• Can cover areas of 500,000 square Km.
