Systems with tropical characteristics depend on convective instability. This can be evaluated by comparing moisture/temperature transport at 700 hPa versus the 850 hPa transport. Areas where dry/cool air over-rides warm moist air will be negative (in this chart plotted red). This is evident over northern Argentina and across Srn Brasil.
