Notes:
Vertical cross section of winds (barbs/KT), convergence (red) and divergence (blue).
Note the area of low level convergence extending between 16N 54W and 15N 50W. Low level divergence is confined to 15N 49W and 15N 47W.
Also note the area of mid level divergence ahead of the trough axis between 500-700 hPa..with a weak area of upper convergence at 400 hPa.
Except for the area of upper convergence at 400 hPa, this conforms quite well with the ideal model of a negatively tilted tropical wave, favoring vertical development west of the trough rather than east.
