Annual Metwatch checklist The Metwatch year starts Jan 1 with various items needing to be considered: Numbering starts over at 001 at 00Z 1 Jan. From $DISCARCHIVE/mcd/archive/MCD/$yyyy/vrf (A new vrf directory for the new year will only contain a single empty "mcd_vrf_0000.txt" file) Ensure directories on are created for new year: RZDM: www/htdocs/archives/metwatch/$yyyy/images $DISCARCHIVE/mcd/archive/MCD/$yyyy/...etc#. Several directories here to be made. doc/ gif/ html/ mdp/ rbk/ txt/ vgf/ vrf/ $GIFARCHIVE/mpd/$yyyy $VGFARCHIVE/mpd/$yyyy Web Backup: Use cp -p to preserve time stamps if doing this a few days prior... then use mv right before 00Z on Dec 31. This can be done sooner to later depending on the weather pattern. If you think MPDs will be issued on Dec 31 or Jan 1 this might need to be done closer to 01010000Z (midnight UTC Dec 31) *.html files from www/htdocs/metwatch to www/htdocs/metwatch/prev_years/html_YYYY *.gif images from www/htdocs/metwatch/images to www/htdocs/metwatch/prev_years/images_YYYY 5. In www/htdocs/metwatch/prev_years make new directory for prev year... images and html 6. Just as a backup to the backup... if desired make one last "backup" directory... maybe named for the previous year... and mv the *.html files into this directory and gif images into "images" (from) metwatch/images For 2020: As it might be an active pattern with MPDs being issued on Dec 31, making year specific instructions: Log into web (alias web) Prior to doing the below "mv" commands, make a copy of the last issues .html and .gifs with a unique name (this is related to the text below in red!!) so when the mv is done using *.html and *.gif the last files will still remain. cd /home/people/hpc/www/htdocs/metwatch cp -p ####.html ####.html.bak cp /home/people/hpc/www/htdocs/metwatch/images cp -p mcd####.gif mcd####.gif.bak cp -p sm_mcd####.gif sm_mcd####.gif.bak cd /home/people/hpc/www/htdocs/metwatch mv *.html /home/people/hpc/www/htdocs/metwatch/prev_years/html_2020 Then rename the prev changed .html.bak and .gif.bak files back to the original using mv command to preserve timestamps. Once a new MPD is issued for the year, these "final" files can be removed. WARNING: leave the last .html file in metwatch until a new one for the new year is issued along with the two gif images that correspond to that mpd. This ensures that the "Most recently issued MPD" link stays active on the MPD Summary page.
