THE ARCTIC COLD FRONT IS FORECAST TO CONTINUE MOVING SOUTHEASTWARD
TONIGHT...WITH ARCTIC AIR AND WINTRY PRECIPITATION OVERSPREADING
THE TENNESSEE RIVER VALLEY AND MUCH OF THE MID-ATLANTIC REGION
DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. WHILE PRECIPITATION MAY BEGIN AS
RAIN...THE RAPID DROP IN TEMPERATURES BEHIND THE FRONT WILL
QUICKLY CHANGE PRECIPITATION TO FREEZING RAIN...SLEET...AND
EVENTUALLY SNOW FOR MANY AREAS. PRECIPITATION WILL BEGIN TO TAPER
OFF ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PLAINS TONIGHT...AND ACROSS
THE OHIO AND TENNESSEE VALLEYS MONDAY MORNING. ACROSS THE
MID-ATLANTIC STATES...THE PRECIPITATION WILL PERSIST INTO MONDAY
AFTERNOON BEFORE ENDING IN THE LATE AFTERNOON OR EVENING.
ADDITIONAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 3 TO 6 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS
MUCH OF THE OHIO VALLEY. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 5 TO 10
INCHES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS...ARE EXPECTED FROM THE
CENTRAL APPALACHIANS AND INTO VIRGINIA. SIGNIFICANT FREEZING RAIN
ICE ACCUMULATIONS ARE FORECAST FOR MUCH OF THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI
VALLEY...TENNESSEE VALLEY...AND OHIO VALLEY...WHERE ICE
ACCUMULATIONS OF GREATER THAN A HALF INCH ARE POSSIBLE. HEAVY
SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL LIKELY CAUSE SEVERE TRAVEL
DISRUPTIONS IN THESE REGIONS.
THE NEXT STORM SUMMARY WILL BE ISSUED BY THE WEATHER PREDICTION
CENTER AT 300 AM CST. PLEASE REFER TO YOUR LOCAL NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE OFFICE FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS EVENT.
