Storm Summary Number 3 for Eastern U.S. Winter Storm
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
400 PM EST Thu Nov 15 2018

Snow and freezing rain is winding down across the Ohio Valley and
snow is falling in the Appalachians through the Northeast.

Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect
for the Northern Appalachians through the Northeast.

For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov

At 300 PM EST...A 1016 mb surface low in Indiana, associated with
an upper level low in Southern Indiana, is tracking northeast
bringing large swaths of snow, ice and a wintry mix from the Ohio
Valley through Southern New England. A 1006 mb low centered in
coastal North Carolina is tracking up the coast. Cold air damming
thanks to an area of high pressure in the Northeast has allowed
for temperatures cold enough for accumulating snowfall from the
Mid-Atlantic States into New England.

The strong upper-level low will move through the Ohio Valley
today, causing the area of snow and freezing rain there to persist
and move northeastward. The surface low pressure system off the
coast of North Carolina will continue to strengthen as it heads
northeast late today into Friday. On the back side of this surface
low, an area of wintry weather is expected. The upper-level and
surface lows will work more in conjunction with each other to
create heavy snowfall in the northern Mid-Atlantic and into the
Northeast. Snow of 6 to 10 inches is forecast in portions of
interior Pennsylvania and into interior New England, with locally
higher amounts. The heaviest of the wintry precipitation will
remain north and west of the major cities between Philadelphia and
Boston, but accumulating snowfall could cause travel issues up and
down the Eastern Seaboard.

The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 PM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
