...Strong low pressure system tracking across the Great Plains
will continue to produce blizzard conditions across the northern
Plains through tonight with heavy rain and thunderstorms moving
toward the Southeast...
Winter Storm Warnings surround the Blizzard Warnings from
northwest Kansas to northern Wisconsin.
Blizzard Warnings are in effect from over portions of North and
South Dakota, Nebraska, and northwest Minnesota.
Flood Watches are in effect from Louisiana and Mississippi across
Alabama and Georgia to the Appalachians and mid Atlantic.

At 200 PM CST...A low pressure system with a minimum central
pressure of 995 mb...29.37 inches...was located near the border of
Missouri and Iowa. Warm and moist air from the Gulf of Mexico was
surging northward ahead of the low pressure system and an active
cold front was driving a line of strong to severe thunderstorms
eastward across the lower Mississippi Valley and into the
Tennessee Valley. Meanwhile, cold air wrapping around the low
across the Great Plains was resulting in moderate snow...and areas
of blowing snow and very low visibility from Kansas to the Dakotas.

The low pressure system is expected to continue to track
northeastward toward the Upper Mississippi River Valley and
western Great Lakes through tonight. As the low tracks
northeastward, strong winds and snow will continue to produce
blizzard conditions over parts of the northern Plains. Additional
snowfall of at least 6 inches is forecast from northern Nebraska
across central Minnesota. Snowfall of more than a foot will be
possible across northeastern Minnesota through Friday morning. The
combination of heavy snow and high winds will make travel
extremely difficult across these areas over the next 24 hours.
Strong to severe thunderstorms will continue to drive east across
the Tennessee Valley and into the Southeast through Friday with
locally heavy rain and flooding expected from this activity.
