NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
400 PM EST Fri Dec 28 2018
...Strong winds, snow showers and bitterly cold temperatures will
continue over the Upper Midwest while heavy rain continues from
the Gulf Coast/Southeast to Mid-Atlantic and into portions of New
England...
Flash Flood and Flood Watches are in place from the Lower
Mississippi Valley northeastward into the Mid-Atlantic region.
Flash Flood and Flood Warnings as well as Flood Advisories are
embedded within the Watches in the Lower Mississippi Valley and
Southeast.
Winter Storm Warning in effect this evening over western Minnesota.
Winter Weather advisory in effect over northern Maine.
For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov
At 300 PM EST...A low pressure system with a minimum central
pressure of 999 mb, or 29.5 inches, was located over Ontario with
a cold front extending south from this low across the Ohio Valley
to the Gulf Coast. Warm and moist air from the Gulf of Mexico
continues to be drawn northward ahead of the cold front and was
contributing to an extensive band over moderate to locally heavy
rain and a few embedded thunderstorms from Georgia to Maine.
Meanwhile, the heavier snow has ended across the Midwest and Great
Lakes but strong winds and bitterly cold temperatures will remain
over much of this region through tonight.
