The low pressure system centered over Arkansas is forecast to move
eastward toward the southern Appalachians tonight. Up to 4 inches
of additional snowfall can be expected from eastern Missouri into
southern Ohio through tonight. Meanwhile, a secondary low
pressure center is forecast to develop along the South Carolina
coast tonight and become the main low center as it moves out to
sea off the North Carolina Outer Banks. An area of 4 to 10 inches
of snowfall is forecast from the central Appalachians eastward
across much of the Mid-Atlantic through Sunday, with 4 to 8 inches
of snowfall possible near Washington D.C. Locally higher amounts
are possible depending on the strength of the secondary low. Dry
air across New England will result in a sharp cutoff to the
snowfall across central and southeast Pennsylvania into far
southern New Jersey. In addition, freezing rain is expected
tonight and Sunday across central and southern Appalachians where
up to a quarter of an inch with locally higher amounts possible
over the southern Appalachians.
The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 900 PM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
