The low pressure system is forecast to move eastward toward the
southern Appalachians tonight. Up to 4 inches of additional
snowfall can be expected from central Illinois into southern Ohio
through tonight. Meanwhile, a second area of low pressure center
is forecast to develop across the Southeast tonight and become the
dominant system as it moves out to sea off the North Carolina
Outer Banks. An area of 4 to 12 inches of snowfall is forecast
from the central Appalachians eastward across much of the
Mid-Atlantic through Sunday, with 7 to 11 inches of snowfall
possible near Washington D.C. Locally higher amounts are
possible. Dry air across New England will result in a sharp
cutoff to the snowfall across central and southeast Pennsylvania
into central New Jersey. To the south, freezing rain is expected
into Sunday near and east of the central and southern Appalachians
where up to a half of an inch of ice could accrete, with locally
higher amounts possible.
The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 300 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
