...Snow is tappering off over the Midwest and the Ohio Valley, and
will continue across the Mid-Atlantic States today...
Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories extend from northeastern
Missouri eastward across portions of the Midwest and Ohio Valley
into the Carolinas and Mid-Atlantic states.

At 200 AM CST...The center of a surface low pressure system, with
a minimum pressure of 1016 millibars, was moving along the western
border of Tennessee and Kentucky. Another surface low was
developing at a triple point across west-central Georgia. National
Weather Service Radars and surface observations showed an
extensive area of light to moderate snow to the north and east of
the low from parts of the Midwest into the southern Ohio Valley
and parts of the Mid-Atlantic states. Temperatures were generally
in the upper 20s to lower 30s.

The low pressure system is forecast to move eastward toward the
southern Appalachians today. Light snow will come to an end across
the Lower Ohio Valley this morning. Meanwhile, a second area of
low pressure center will continue developing across the Southeast
later this morning and become the dominant system as it moves out
to sea off the North Carolina Outer Banks. An area of 4 to 12
inches of total snowfall is forecast from the central Appalachians
eastward across much of the Mid-Atlantic through Sunday, with 8 to
12 inches of snowfall possible near Washington D.C. Locally
higher amounts are possible. Dry air across New England will
result in a sharp cutoff to the snowfall from northern
Pennsylvania into New York City. To the south, freezing rain is
expected into Sunday near and east of the central and southern
Appalachians where up to a quarter of an inch of ice could
accrete, with locally higher amounts possible.
