...Snow continues over the Northeast, while severe thunderstorms
and heavy rain wrap up across the central/southern Mid-Atlantic
and Southeast...

Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories extend from
the Ohio Valley into the northern Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

At 300 AM EST...A surface low pressure system with an estimated
central pressure of 998 mb was located approximately 70 miles to
the west of Hatteras Island, North Carolina. A cold front extended
from the low towards the southwest across the Florida Panhandle
and into the Gulf of Mexico. A new low developed to the north, off
of the Deleware coast with a cold front extending south and
connecting into the original low and a warm front extending east
into the Atlantic. National Weather Service radars and surface
observations indicated moderate to heavy snow across the northern
Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, with moderate to heavy rain across
portions of Long Island and southeast New England. Meanwhile,
thunderstorms were moving offshore into the Atlantic from the
DelMarVa region into the Southeast.

The new low pressure system in the Mid-Atlantic will continue
strengthening today and advance northward along the Eastern U.S.
coast. Snow will spread into the Northeast through Monday, before
tapering off in the late afternoon across Maine. Total snowfall
amounts of 4 to 8 inches, with locally higher amounts, are
expected from the northern Mid-Atlantic to southern New England by
Monday evening.
