...A strong low pressure system is spreading moderate to locally
heavy snow across the Northern Plains toward the Upper Midwest...

At 800 PM CST...A low pressure system with an estimated central
pressure of 992 mb was moving northeastward across northern
Illinois.  National Weather Service radars and surface
observations indicated that moderate to locally heavy snow was
located in the cold air mass across Minnesota and northern
Wisconsin, with light snow across the eastern Dakotas.  Farther
east and southeast, mainly rain, mixing with wet snow, sleet and
freezing rain was reported across the Great Lakes.  Embedded
thunderstorms were found across the Ohio Valley ahead of a warm
front.  Meanwhile, strong to severe thunderstorms were moving
across the Tennessee Valley ahead of a cold front.

The low pressure system over the Midwest is expected to rapidly
move northeastward and across the Great Lakes into Canada on
Sunday.  Snow will begin to end across the Northern Plains this
evening and continue across the Upper Great Lakes on Sunday. 
Total snowfall accumulations across these areas should range from
4 inches to locally a foot possible before the low moves away into
Canada on Sunday. Some wintry precipitation can also be expected
across New England tonight and into Sunday.
