The low pressure center in Colorado is expected to deepen today as
it progresses east and northeastward through the central Plains
and into the Upper Midwest by Friday. A warm front will push
northward through the central Plains with a cold front advancing
eastward through the southern Plains. Heavy wet snow is expected
throughout Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Minnesota, and
Wisconsin. Greatest accumulations are expected across northern
Nebraska, South Dakota, and central Minnesota with 12-24" possible
by Friday. Power outages are likely. In addition, strong winds
will result in blizzard conditions and hazardous travel.
Furthermore, thunderstorms, heavy rain, and mixed precipitation
are expected ahead of the frontal system. To the south, strong
winds will lead to extreme fire weather danger across the southern
High Plains.
The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 900 PM MDT. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
