Kansas with an estimated central pressure of 985 mb, or 29.09
inches of mercury. From this low, a quasi-stationary front
extended eastward through the Middle Mississippi and Ohio valleys,
into the Mid-Atlantic. A cold front extended south from the low
through eastern Kansas, eastern Oklahoma, and into central Texas.
A secondary cold front extended southwestward from the low through
the Southern Plains before stretching northward through the
Southern and Central Rockies. National Weather Service radar and
surface observations indicated light to moderate snow across the
Rockies. In addition, a broad swath of light to moderate snow
stretched from Colorado and western Kansas, northward through
western Nebraska and much of South Dakota. A mix of moderate and
locally heavy rain and snow was found across the southern half of
Minnesota and central Wisconsin.

The low pressure center in Kansas is expected to progress
north-northeast through the central Plains and into the Upper
Midwest by Friday. Heavy wet snow is expected from northeast
Colorado, through the northern Plains and into the Upper Midwest.
Greatest accumulations are expected across northern Nebraska,
South Dakota, and central Minnesota with 12-24" possible by
Friday. Power outages are likely. In addition, strong winds will
result in blizzard conditions and hazardous travel. Furthermore,
thunderstorms, heavy rain, and mixed precipitation are expected
ahead of the frontal system. To the south, strong winds will lead
to critical fire weather danger across the southern High Plains.
The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 AM CDT. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
