Storm Summary Number 4 for Central U.S. Heavy Rain and Rockies and
High Plains Snow
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
1000 PM CDT Tue May 21 2019

...Snow is ongoing in the Rockies and parts of the High Plains as
a line of thunderstorms moves through the Mississippi Valley...

Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are in effect
for parts of the Northern and Central High Plains and into the
Bighorn Mountains and portions of the Rockies.

Flood and Flash Flood Watches are in effect for the Middle
Mississippi Valley, as well as for the Northern High Plains.

Widespread Flood Warnings are ongoing across portions of the
Plains and the Middle and Lower Mississippi Valley.

For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov

At 900 PM CDT...A surface low pressure system with a central
pressure of 991 mb, or 29.26 inches of mercury, was located in
southern Nebraska, about 80 miles west-southwest of Grand Island.
The low was occluded, and a slow-moving cold front extended
southward through the Plains. National Weather Service radars and
surface observations indicated a squall line had moved east away
from this front, and was located in the Mississippi Valley. In
addition, a warm front extended eastward from the triple point
across the Middle Mississippi Valley. Moderate to locally heavy
rain was ongoing north of this front across the Central/Northern
Plains and Upper Midwest. North and west of the low, a deep
upper-level trough over the Rockies was helping cause temperatures
that were cold enough for snow in parts of the Rockies and into
the Central High Plains.

northeastward into the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest on
Tuesday night and Wednesday. Rainfall will spread across those
areas north of the low and eastward ahead of the cold front, with
an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain possible in the Northern
Plains and Mississippi Valley through Wednesday. To the northwest
of the low, snow is expected to continue in the Black Hills
through Wednesday morning, with several inches of additional snow
possible. A few inches of snow could accumulate in the Central
High Plains as well. In higher elevations of the Wind River
Mountains, Bighorn Mountains, and portions of the Rockies, over a
foot of additional snow is expected over the next couple of days.

The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 400 AM CDT. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
