...Moderate to heavy snow is advancing east across portions of the
central Plains and the Midwest as a major winter storm moves
across the Central U.S. tonight and moves toward the Eastern U.S.
on Saturday...

Winter Storm Warnings, Winter Storm Watches and Winter Weather
Advisories are in effect across a large area of the central
Plains, Midwest, Ohio Valley, central Appalachians, Mid-Atlantic
and the Northeast.

At 900 PM EST...A surface low, with a central pressure of 1000
millibars, or 29.53 inches of mercury, was moving steadily off to
the east over far southwest Oklahoma with a warm front extending
east across the Red River Valley and the downstream over the lower
Mississippi Valley. Meanwhile a cold front is dropping south
across western Texas. Surface observations and National Weather
Service radars show an area of mainly light rain impacting areas
of northeast Oklahoma, southeast Kansas and central Missouri, but
just to the northwwest is an axis of light to moderate snow
falling from portions of the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles
northeast across central Kansas, northern Missouri, Iowa, southern
Minnesota and central to southern Wisconsin.

The surface low over southwest Oklahoma this evening will cross
the lower Mississippi Valley early on Saturday and strengthen as
it lifts east-northeast across the Tennessee Valley by Saturday
evening. On Sunday, the storm system will cross the Mid-Atlantic
region and lift northeast up along the New England. Heavy snowfall
will develop north and northeast of the low track this weekend,
with snowfall totals of as much as 4 to 8 icnhes across the
Midwest and including the Ohio Valley north of the Ohio River.
More significant snowfall is expected farther to the northeast
across the northern Mid-Atlantic region and Northeast with
interior areas of Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire
and Maine seeing as much as 1 to 2 feet of snowfall by Sunday
evening.
