North Dakota. Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories
are in effect for much of North Dakota, northeast South Dakota,
and northwestern Minnesota.

At 800 PM MDT...Surface observations indicated sharply colder air
spilling south and east behind a well defined front extending from
Lake Superior through the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys and into the
Southeast and Gulf of Mexico. A surface low with a central
pressure of 993 mb, or 29.32 inches of mercury, was identified
along an occluded front in northwestern Minnesota. National

The storm is forecast to remain quasi-staionary over northern
Minnesota through Saturday. Heavy snow will persist across the
Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley on the backside of
the storm. Additional snow accumulations of over a foot are likely
across north-central North Dakota while 6 to 10 inches are
expected for parts of western Minnesota. Blowing snow and blizzard
conditions can be life-threatening and make roads impassable,
especially in central North Dakota. Some mixed precipitation is
also possible for portions of the eastern Dakotas and Minnesota
along the transition zone between snow and rain. Conditions should
begin to improve Saturday night into Sunday morning as the low
begins its departure into southern Ontario.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 300 AM MDT. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
