At 1000 AM EDT...National Weather Service radar and surface
observations show a powerful mid-October cyclone impacting the
Northeast this morning with periods of rain and strong wind gusts.
At 10AM EDT, the storm's baromtetric pressure was noted at 972 mb,
or 28.70 inches of mercury, located north of Concord, New
Hampshire. This storm system's impressively low barometric
pressure has broken numerous October low pressure records across
New England. The tight pressure gradient has led to intense wind
gusts region wide resulting in downed trees and numerous power
outages across the Northeast.

The storm system will weaken gradually today with periods of rain
and gusty winds continuing across New England. Rain will taper off
and winds will subside tonight as high pressure over the Great
Lakes and Ohio Valley slides east on Friday. Expect winds to
weaken substantially Friday night as high pressure moves over the
Northeast on Saturday.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 500 PM EDT. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
