Storm Summary Number 3 for Great Lakes to Northeast Snowstorm
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
1000 PM EST Tue Nov 12 2019
...Lake effect snow will dump a few more inches on parts of Ohio,
Pennsylvania, and New York through Wednesday morning...
Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect for lake effect belts
downstream of Lake Erie in northeast Ohio and northwest
Pennsylvania.
Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect for lake effect belts
downstream of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario in western New York.
For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov
At 900 PM EST...Surface observations sampled a surface low, with
an estimated minimum central pressure of 996 mb, or 29.41 inches
of Mercury, moving through the Canadian Maritime Provinces east of
Maine, and moving away from teh United States. A cold front
extended down through the western Atlantic Ocean, reconnecting
with land across central Florida. National Weather Service radar
imagery and surface observations indicated that precipitation
associated with the cold front had moved entirely offshore. Lake
effect snowfall, however, continued downwind of Lakes Erie and
Ontario. A broad and intensely cold arctic air mass behind the
front had led to numerous record low temperatures Tuesday morning,
and record cold daytime high temperatures from the Great Lakes and
Ohio Valley to the southern Plains.

Northwest winds and cold arctic air flowing over the relatively
warm lake surfaces will sustain lake effect snow from Ohio to
western New York through Wednesday morning, and additional
accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are generally expected, although an
isolated 4 or 5 inch amount could occur overnight. As high
pressure settles into this same region Wednesday morning the winds
and lake effect snow will subside. The light winds and broad
arctic high pressure is forecast to lead to an unusually large
swath of record low daily temperatures on Wednesday, from Boston
to San Antonio. And single digit lows are expected in the Great
Lakes and Ohio Valley.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 400 AM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
