...Heavy snow is falling across parts of the Central Plains...

A large swath of Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for
northeastern Colorado, northwestern Kansas, much of Nebraska,

For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov

At 100 PM MST...A deep upper-level trough over the Texas Panhandle
continues to intensify a surface low pressure system over
southwest Kansas. Latest surface observations indicated an
occluded center of low pressure of 993 mb, or 29.32 inches of
mercury, located over southeastern Colorado approximately 100
miles east of Trinidad. The occlusion extends a short distance
into another low over southwest Kansas with a central pressure of
991 mb or 29.26 inches of mercury. National Weather Service radars
and surface observations indicated heavy snow falling across
eastern Colorado and light to moderate amounts spreading into the
Central Plains and Upper Midwest. The combination of moderate to
heavy snow and continued gusty winds have led to poor visibility
as well as blowing/drifting snow from northern Colorado to
southern Wyoming.

The storm system will track north and east through the Central
Plains and into the Midwest by tonight. A swath of moderate to
heavy snowfall will move across the Central Plains and into the
Midwest this evening. By Wednesday morning, the storm and its
associated bands of snow will be located in the northern Great
Lakes and Upper Midwest. Additional snow is forecast to amount
between 8 to 14 inches from south-central Minnesota, northwest
Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. Some portions of south-central
Minnesota, northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan
may receive over a foot of snow. Gusty winds will also cause
blowing and drifting snow, as well as reduced visibility causing
whiteout conditions. A narrow zone in the central Plains and
Midwest will briefly mix with, or change over to, rain and may
accumulate lesser snowfall totals. Slick roads will still be a
concern as a result.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 800 PM MST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
