At 100 PM MST...A 988 mb surface low pressure center was located
over eastern Nebraska with an occluded/cold front extending
southward across the Middle Mississippi Valley and Texas,
propelled by a potent shortwave disturbance aloft. Current impacts
from this powerful winter storm span from the Rockies to the
Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, southward across much of the
Ohio Valley down into the Tennessee Valley and Lower Mississippi
Valley. National Weather Service Radars and surface observations
indicated moderate to heavy snowfall continuing across the
Northern/Central Rockies/Plains as light to moderate amounts
continued across the Upper Midwest. Farther south -- moderate to
heavy rainfall continued along a warm front meandering from
eastern Missouri across the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys. Rain and
thunderstorms were also identified along the cold front over the
Lower Mississippi Valley and eastern Texas.

The storm system will track eastward from Nebraska to the greater
Chicago area by Sunday morning. During this time, the storm will
produce moderate to heavy snow for the Northern Plains with
blizzard conditions possible, scattered to numerous
showers/thunderstorms and gusty winds from Texas to the Ohio
Valley, and mixed precipitation across portions of the Upper
Midwest. The surface low is forecast to maintain an intensity
around 990 mb as it tracks toward the Great Lakes region by
Sunday. Severe thunderstorms may continue to develop along the
cold front across portions of the Lower Mississippi/Tennessee
Valleys through Saturday evening. The low will enter the Upper
Mississippi Valley Saturday evening before crossing the Great
Lakes region on Sunday and entering the Northeast Sunday evening
and Monday, where it will continue to cause hazardous travel
conditions. Additional snowfall accumulations in excess of a foot
are possible across portions of the Dakotas and northern
Minnesota/Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula through Monday morning.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 800 PM MST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
