Storm Summary Number 17 for Coast to Coast Winter Storm
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
1000 PM EST Sun Dec 01 2019
...Heavy snow and freezing rain were occurring in the northern
Mid-Atlantic and Northeast while moderate to heavy lake-effect
snow continues in the Upper Great Lakes...
Winter Storm Warnings and Watches and Winter Weather Advisories
are in effect for the Upper Great Lakes, northern Mid-Atlantic and
Northeast, and the Southern/Central Appalachians.
Wind Advisories are in effect for parts of the Southern/Central
Appalachians and the Southeast.
For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov
At 900 PM EST...A surface low located in the Lower Great Lakes and
its frontal system stretching southward had begun to weaken.
Another surface low with a central pressure of 993 mb, or 29.32
inches of mercury, was becoming dominant and was located just
offshore near Atlantic City, New Jersey. National Weather Service
radars and surface observations indicated moderate to heavy
precipitation had spread across the northern Mid-Atlantic and
Northeast north of the dominant low. Snow was falling across
northern New England, upstate New York, and central Pennsylvania,
while freezing rain was occurring in eastern Pennsylvania,
northern New Jersey and southern New York, and into Connecticut.
Meanwhile, wind flow over the Upper Great Lakes was favorable for
causing moderate to heavy lake-effect snow across the Upper
Midwest and Upper Great Lakes region.

The surface low over the western Atlantic is forecast to track
slowly as a nor'easter up the Northeast U.S. coast through
Tuesday. After a period of additional freezing rain, heavy snow
will overtake much of the Northeast by Monday on the backside of
the low. A large swath of snow of 8 to 12 inches is forecast from
northeastern Pennsylvania throughout parts of New York and New
England. Locally higher amounts around 18 inches of snow are
expected, especially in higher elevations. Additionally, upslope
flow over the Southern and Central Appalachians will lead to snow
there as well, with 6 to 12 inches of snow forecast in the
mountains of West Virginia. A few additional inches of lake effect
snow are possible in the Upper Great Lakes region overnight.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 400 AM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
