Storm Summary Number 3 for Thanksgiving Week Coast to Coast Winter
Storm
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
700 PM PST Wed Nov 27 2019
...A significant winter storm is currently impacting the Western
U.S...
Blizzard Warnings are in effect for northern Montana. Winter Storm
Warnings are in effect for central Oregon, the southern mountain
ranges of California, northern Arizona, south-central Nevada, and
portions of the higher elevations of the Intermountain West.
Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for much of the central
Plains. Winter Storm Watches are in effect for portions of the
northern Rockies and Plains.
High Wind Warnings and Wind Advisories are in effect for parts of
the lower Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic regions.
For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov
At 600 PM PST...Surface observations show a trio of low pressure
centers: one located over southeast Oregon, the second in western
Nevada, and a third in western Utah. A broad and potent
upper-level trough stationed over the western U.S. is responsible
for the myriad of weather impacts from California to the southern
Plains. National Weather Service radar and surface observations
showed moderate to heavy precipitation tracking through the
Southwest and the Texas Panhandle. Mountain snows continue across
parts of the Sierra Nevada and the higher elevations of the
Intermountain West. Excessive wind gusts have diminished across
most of the west with strong wind gusts currently confined to
parts of the southern and northern Rockies.

The storm system is forecast to track across the Rockies on
Thanksgiving before entering into the Great Plains on Friday. The
storm will provide a Thanksgiving-like spread of its own with side
dishes of heavy mountain snow, valley rain, scattered showers and
thunderstorms, and gusty winds across the Rockies and Southwest.
The storm will then push into the Great Plains on Friday where it
will restrengthen and produce heavy snow across the northern
Rockies and Plains. Snow totals over 12" are likely in parts of
the Dakotas and the higher elevations of the Rockies. Further
south, severe thunderstorms are possible in the southern Plains on
Friday. The storm will remain over the northern Plains through
Saturday where it will continue to cause treacherous travel from
wintry weather throughout the northern Plains. Severe storms will
remain in the forecast across the South-Central region on Saturday
and strong wind gusts will be common across much of the Nation's
Heartland.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 700 AM PST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
