...A significant winter storm is currently impacting the Central
and Western U.S...
Blizzard Warnings are in effect for northeastern Wyoming and
western South Dakota. Winter Storm Warnings scatter the Rockies
and Great Basin from northern Montana to southern California.
Winter Weather Advisories are in effect from the southern High
Plains to the Northern Plains. Winter Storm Watches are in effect
from the Northern Rockies to the Upper Midwest.
Flash Flood Watches are in effect for southern California,
southern Arizona, and southwestern New Mexico.
High Wind Watches are in effect across portions of the central
High Plains.
For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov
At 600 AM PST...Surface observations show a trio of low pressure
centers across the Great Basin. A broad and potent upper-level
trough stationed over the western U.S. is responsible for the
cornucopia of weather impacts from California to the southern
Plains. National Weather Service radar and surface observations
showed moderate to heavy precipitation tracking through the
Southwest and southern Plains. Mountain snows continue across
parts of the Sierra Nevada and the higher elevations of the
Intermountain West.

The storm system is forecast to track across the Rockies today
before entering into the Great Plains Friday evening. The storm
will provide a Thanksgiving-like spread of its own with side
dishes of heavy mountain snow, valley rain, scattered showers and
thunderstorms, gusty winds across the Rockies and Southwest, and a
mix of sleet and freezing rain across the Great Plains. Once the
storm enters the Plains on Friday, it is forecast to restrengthen
and produce heavy snow and strong winds across the northern
Rockies and Plains. Snow totals over 12" are likely in parts of
the Dakotas and the higher elevations of the Rockies. Further
south, severe thunderstorms are possible in the southern Plains on
Friday. The storm will remain over the northern Plains through
Saturday before entering the Northeast Sunday and Monday, where it
will continue to cause treacherous travel. Severe storms will
remain in the forecast across the South-Central region on Saturday
as well and strong wind gusts will be common across much of the
nation's Heartland.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 700 PM PST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
