...Areas of snow and freezing rain stretch from the Southern
Rockies to the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England...
Winter Storm Warnings have been issued for portions of the
Southern Rockies, central Missouri, central Illinois, central
Indiana and western Maryland.
Winter Weather Advisories are in place stretching from the
Southern Rockies eastward across the central Plains, the Ohio
Valley, central Appalachians, the northern Mid-Atlantic and
southern New England.
Flood Watches are in effect for eastern Kentucky, far western
North Carolina, West Virginia and southeast Ohio.

At 800 AM CST...Surface observations indicated multiple areas of
low pressure along a quasi-stationary boundary extending from the
Mid-Atlantic to the Southern Plains. National Weather Service
Radar showed bands of moderate to heavy snow from Ohio to central
Maryland. Portions of these areas were also reporting sleet and
freezing rain. Heavy rain was also occurring along the stationary
front across northern Tennessee and southern Kentucky. Further
west, snow was continuing across portions of the southern Rockies
and into southern Kansas.

The frontal boundary extending from the Southern Plains to the
Mid-Atlantic region will continue to slowly move across the
eastern U.S. today. Snow and an icy mix will continue this
morning across portions of the Mid-Atlantic, Central Appalachians,
and Ohio Valley. As a low pressure system gains strength across
the Lower Mississippi Valley today, snow currently impacting the
Southern Rockies and southern Kansas will spread eastward across
the Middle Mississippi and Ohio valleys. This second surge of
moisture will produce an additional 1 to 2 inches of snow across
the Midwest and Ohio Valley, as well as, a glaze or more of ice.
Across the Deep South strong to severe thunderstorms are expected.
Heavy rain and flash flooding is a concern in the eastern Ohio and
Tennessee valleys this afternoon and evening. The storm system
will then advance east into the Mid-Atlantic Tuesday morning,
bringing 3 to 6 inches of snow and an icy mix across the eastern
Great Lakes, interior Northeast, and New England.
