The low center over Minnesota will gradually weaken as a new
surface low develops and intensifies over the northern Great
Lakes. Although the heaviest snowfall has ended for most areas,
additional bands of light to moderate snow and gusty winds are
expected to continue through tonight and into Monday. Heavier
snow is expected to fall across northern Wisconsin and Michigan as
the second low develops through Monday. Storm total snow
accumulations on the order of 8 to 15 inches, with locally higher
amounts, are possible. In addition to wintry precipitation, gusty
winds of 30 to 45 mph are likely across the Plains and Upper
Midwest, which will result in areas of blowing and drifting snow
and hazardous travel conditions. As the system moves eastward
through Monday, potentially significant snow and ice will develop
across portions of New England. Snow accumulations of 4 to 8
inches are expected, with ice accumulations in excess of a quarter
of an inch, and isolated areas of half of an inch possible,
especially for the higher elevations of Upstate New York and
Massachusetts. Elsewhere, heavy rainfall will continue across the
Ohio Valley through tonight.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 300 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
