At 200 AM CST...A dual-low pressure system exists with a 993 mb
low over southern Minnesota and a second low over southern Lake
Michigan of similar magnitude. A cold front extended southward
from this system across the Ohio Valley and extending southward to
the Florida Panhandle, and a warm front extending eastward to the
Mid-Atlantic region. National Weather Service doppler radars and
surface observations indicated widespread rain over much of
Indiana, Michigan, and eastern Wisconsin in conjunction with the
second surface low near Lake Michigan. To the north and west of
the low over southern Minnesota, bands of moderate snow were
observed across parts of the Dakotas and western Minnesota and
into Iowa. Light precipitation continues to develop across much
of the Northeast states.

The low center over Minnesota will continue to weaken as the new
surface low develops and intensifies over the northern Great
Lakes. Although the heaviest snowfall has ended for the northern
Plains, heavier snow is expected to fall across northern Wisconsin
and Michigan as the second low develops through Monday. Storm
total snow accumulations on the order of 6 to 12 inches, with
locally higher amounts, are expected from northern Wisconsin to
northern Michigan. Gusty winds of 30 to 45 mph are likely across
the Plains and Upper Midwest, which will result in areas of
blowing and drifting snow and hazardous travel conditions. As the
system moves eastward through Monday, potentially significant snow
and ice will develop across portions of New England. Snow
accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected, with ice
accumulations of a quarter to half of an inch, with locally higher
amounts possible, especially for the higher elevations of Upstate
New York and Massachusetts.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 900 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
