The low center over Michigan will continue to strengthen and move
slowly northward over southeast Lake Superior through Tuesday
morning. Although the heaviest snowfall has ended for the northern
Plains, heavier snow is expected to fall across northern Wisconsin
and Michigan throughout today. Storm total snow accumulations on
the order of 6 to 12 inches, with locally higher amounts, are
expected from northern Wisconsin to northern Michigan. Gusty
winds of 30 to 45 mph are likely across the Plains and Upper
Midwest, which will result in areas of blowing and drifting snow
and hazardous travel conditions. As the system moves eastward
today and Tuesday, potentially significant snow and ice will
develop across portions of New England. Snow accumulations of 4 to
8 inches are expected, with ice accumulations of a quarter to half
of an inch, with locally higher amounts possible, especially for
the higher elevations of Upstate New York and Massachusetts.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 400 PM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
