The surface low will continue dropping quickly through the
Northern Plains tonight, across the Midwest on Monday, and into
the Northeast by Tuesday. Snowfall accumulations of 4 to 12
inches, with locally higher amounts, are possible across parts of
the Upper Midwest, Upper Great Lakes, and much of the interior
Northeast through the beginning of this week. Even higher amounts
are possible in the higher terrain of Northern New England as well
as downwind of the Great Lakes associated with lake enhanced
snowfall. The cold front accompanying this system will sweep
across the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys and the Mid-Atlantic Monday and
Tuesday resulting in rain changing to snow in some places and snow
accumulations of generally 1 to 2+ inches across parts of the
Mid-Atlantic and as far south as central Mississippi. This system
will also usher in an extremely cold arctic airmass across much of
the Northern Plains, Midwest, and the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast.
Dangerously cold and potentially record breaking temperatures and
wind chills are expected by Thursday, particularly for the Upper
Midwest, where wind chill values could be as low as 40 to 60
degrees below zero for many locations, including the large
metropolitan cities of Chicago and Minneapolis.

The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 900 PM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
