The surface low is expected to move eastward across the Midwest
Sunday night and Monday, and through the Great Lakes region Monday
night and Tuesday. Heavy snow will spread north and east of the
low across the Midwest and Great Lakes regions and into the
Northeast. Over a foot of snow is forecast downwind of the Upper
Great Lakes, as well as in upstate New York. Farther south, rain
is expected to change to snow behind the cold front associated
with the low, in the Lower Mississippi Valley, Tennessee Valley,
and the Appalachians. 1 to 4 inches of snow is possible there,
with higher elevations of the Southern and Central Appalachians
seeing 4 to 6 inches. Additionally, this system will also usher in
an extremely cold arctic airmass across much of the Northern
Plains, Midwest, and the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast. Dangerously cold
and potentially record breaking temperatures and wind chills are
expected by Thursday, particularly for the Upper Midwest, where
wind chill values could be as low as 40 to 60 degrees below zero
for many locations, including Chicago and Minneapolis.

The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 300 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
