The surface low will move northeastward through the Great Lakes
region Monday night and Tuesday, while another low is expected to
form along the front in the Mid-Atlantic region on Tuesday and
move northeastward along the Atlantic coast. Heavy snow will
continue and spread further into the Northeast overnight, and 8 to
12 inches of snow is expected for the interior Northeast.
Meanwhile, the precipitation farther south is expected to change
to snow behind the cold front; 1 to 4 inches of snow is forecast
for parts of the Lower Mississippi Valley through the Tennessee
Valley and Southern/Central Appalachians. Additionally, heavy lake
effect snows are expected to remain downwind of the Upper Great
Lakes region in the cold air after the low passes, with an
additional foot of snow possible. This system will also usher in
an extremely cold arctic airmass across much of the Northern
Plains, Midwest, and the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast. Dangerously cold
and potentially record breaking temperatures and wind chills are
expected by Tuesday and Wednesday, particularly for the Upper
Midwest, where wind chill values could be as low as 40 to 60
degrees below zero for many locations, including Chicago and
Minneapolis.

The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 300 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
