The low pressure system will continue to weaken as it propagates
eastward toward the Atlantic. The upper level energy associated
with this low pressure system will lift up into the Northern
Plains and Upper Midwest today. An Arctic cold front will continue
descending southward through the Central and Southern Great
Plains, bringing frigid air to these regions. Heavy snowfall will
continue across western Montana and from northern North Dakota and
northern Minnesota through Monday evening. Expect additional
snowfall amounts to range between 4 and 8 inches with locally
heavier amounts. Freezing rain mixing with sleet and snow will
continue spreading east into parts of the Upper Midwest and the
Upper Great Lakes, with ice totals of up to a half of an inch
possible through Monday evening. Wind chill values as low as -30F
to -40F are expected throughout the norther Plains and Upper
Midwest. Meanwhile, another digging trough off the West Coast will
continue bringing heavy snowfall across the higher elevations of
the western states, including the Sierra Nevada, the Oregon
Cascades, and higher elevations of the northern and central
Rockies in addition to the higher elevations of the Central Great
Basin for the next few days. The Sierra Nevada can expect snow
totals of up to 6 feet through Monday evening, while portions of
the Intermountain West and Central Rockies will pickup an
additional 1 to 2 feet.
The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 100 PM PST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
