The surface low located in the Ohio Valley will continue to deepen
as it progresses toward the Great Lakes later this evening. For
today, heavy snow will begin to taper off across the Plains as it
moves farther into the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes today. Expect
5 to 10 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts, across the
Upper Midwest and Upper Great Lakes, with 1 to 3 inches for the
Central Plains and Middle Mississippi Valley. Some of these areas
will also experience gusty winds which will lead to blizzard
conditions--particularly along eastern North and South Dakota and
western Minnesota/Iowa. Blizzard conditions will also begin for
portions of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan this evening and
continue into Friday evening. Ice is expected along the transition
zone from rain to snow, with two to four tenths of an inch of
accumulated ice expected for areas from northeast Oklahoma into
southeast Iowa through this afternoon and evening. Ice
accumulations of one to two tenths of an inch can be expected for
the Upper Great Lakes, with a little over a tenth of an inch
expected for the interior of New England through Friday morning.
Expect rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches, with locally higher
amounts, for the Ohio Valley today.

The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 300 PM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
