At 1200 PM PST...A deep upper-level low interacting with an arctic
front continues to bring a widespread snowfall event into the
Pacific Northwest. At noon PST, a surface low pressure system
with an estimated central pressure of 994 mb...29.35 inches of
mercury...was moving slowly southward off the coast of central
Oregon. Satellite imagery, National Weather Service radar and
surface observations indicated that widespread snow associated
with an occluded front was rotating across much of Washington,
over the higher elevations of western Oregon and into northern
California and down along the Sierra Nevada. Scattered areas of
snow were also found across parts of the Intermountain region.
Rain was the precipitation type for the immediate coast of
Washington, over the lower elevations of western Oregon, northern
California, and down into parts of southern California in
association with another low pressure system.

The low pressure system off the coast of Oregon is expected to
move southward through tonight and is forecast to move onshore
into southwestern Oregon on Sunday. Snow currently over the
Pacific Northwest is expected to gradually taper off from north to
south tonight as the system moves farther to the south.
Meanwhile, the snow will overspread the higher elevations of
northern California through tonight including the Sierra Nevada
before becoming more scattered in nature on Sunday. An additional
inch or two of snow is possible across the lower elevations of
Washington and Oregon through tonight, with up to 8 inches
possible over the higher elevations of the interior sections.
Farther south, up to 10 inches of snow is expected for the higher
elevations of northern California through tonight. The Sierra
Nevada is expected to see more than two feet of snow through
Sunday evening. The snow will also spread into the Intermountain
region where up to a foot is possible through tonight. Another
system is forecast to arrive Sunday night, bringing additional
snowfall into the Pacific Northwest.

The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 700 PM PST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
