Storm Summary Number 5 for Plains to Eastern U.S. Storm
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
900 PM CST Wed Feb 20 2019

...Snow across the upper Midwest and the Great Lakes is expected
to taper off tonight as wintry precipitation spreads into New
England...

Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for portions of the upper
Midwest/Great Lakes and across the central Appalachians.

Flood and flash flood watches/warnings remain in effect from the
lower Mississippi Valley eastward into interior Georgia and
eastern Tennessee.

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for the remainder of the
upper Midwest into the Great Lakes, portions of the interior
Mid-Atlantic and much of the Northeast.

For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov

At 800 PM CST...A low pressure system with a central pressure of
1003 mb was moving northeastward into northern Wisconsin while
another surface low was forming along a coastal front near the
eastern shore of Virginia. National Weather Service radars and
surface observations indicated an area of moderate snow was moving
eastward across the central Great Lakes as the snow over the upper
Midwest tapers off into light snow or flurries. Farther to the
southeast, an area of freezing rain was moving across much of
Pennsylvania into central and western New York. Closer to the
coast, light snow was spreading into central and southeastern New
England as the snow changed over to freezing rain across southern
New England. Pockets of freezing rain were also found along the
Appalachians. Meanwhile, rain and scattered thunderstorms were
moving across the interior Southeast ahead of a cold/warm frontal
system.

The surface low pressure center over the upper Midwest is forecast
to move eastward across the Great Lakes tonight and into Canada on
Thursday. The remaining snow over the upper Midwest and the Great
Lakes is expected to end by Thursday morning, with an additional 2
to 4 inches of new snow expected. For New England, snow is
expected to overspread the area tonight. But a change over to
mixed precipitation or rain is expected for central to southern
New England tonight into early Thursday morning before ending
during the day. Additional 2 to 6 inches of snow can be expected
for northern to central New England. Farther to the south, ice
accumulation of up to 0.1 inches can be expected over southern New
England while a little more than 0.1 of an inch is expected for
the central Appalachians. For the interior Southeast, locally
more than an inch of rain could cause some flooding issues tonight
into Thursday.

The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 300 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
