Storm Summary Number 6 for Plains to Eastern U.S. Storm
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
400 AM EST Thu Feb 21 2019

...Snow across much of the upper Midwest and the Great Lakes has
ended as wintry precipitation spreads further northeast across New
England...

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for much of the Northeast.

Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for the central and southern
Pennsylvania.

Flood and flash flood watches/warnings remain in effect from the
lower Mississippi Valley eastward into interior Georgia and
eastern Tennessee.

For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov

At 300 AM EST...A low pressure system with a minimum central
pressure of 1002 mb was moving northeastward across the Great
Lakes while another surface low with an estimated central pressure
of 1010 mb was intensifying just south of Long Island, New York.
National Weather Service radars and surface observations indicated
that much of the snow across the Midwest had ended or tapered off
into flurries. Farther to the southeast, the freezing rain over
Pennsylvania had tapered off as well. Closer to the coast, light
to moderate snow was spreading further to the northeast into
northern New England as the snow over central New England changed
over to freezing rain. Pockets of freezing rain were also found
along the Appalachians. Meanwhile, rain and scattered
thunderstorms were moving across the interior section of the
Southeast ahead of a cold/warm frontal system.

The surface low pressure center south of Long Island is forecast
to move off the New England coast today, ending the wintry
precipitation over central and southern New England this morning,
followed by northern New England by the afternoon. An additional
2 to 4 inches of snow is possible for northern New England before
the snow tapers off today. Some minor additional ice accumulation
can be expected over central New England and across the central
Appalachians early this morning. For the interior Southeast,
locally heavy rain could cause some flooding issues early today.
The focus of heavy rain will then shift westward toward the lower
Mississippi Valley later today as a warm front lifts northward
from the Gulf of Mexico.

The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 AM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
