Storm Summary Number 08 for Southwest to Midwest Winter Storm and
Lower Mississippi Valley Heavy Rainfall

...Ongoing heavy snow and rain across the Upper Midwest and Upper
Great Lakes. Heavy rain for parts of the Southeast and
Mid-Atlantic...
Blizzard Warnings are in effect for parts of the Central and
Northern Plains and downwind of the Great Lakes.
Winter Storm Warnings, Watches, and Advisories are in effect for
parts of the Northern Plains, Upper Midwest/Great Lakes, and Upper
Northeast.
Flash Flood Warnings and Watches as well as Flood Warnings and
Advisories are in effect for the Lower Mississippi Valley up
through the Tennessee/Ohio Valleys and Mid-Atlantic, as well as
parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley.
High Wind Warnings and Watches are in effect across the Great
Lakes and Northeast.

At 200 AM CST...A surface low with a central pressure of 990 mb,
or 29.23 inches of mercury, was located over southern Wisconsin. A
secondary surface low developed in western Illinois, west of the
primary low, with a central pressure of 991 mb, or 29.26 inches of
mercury. The primary low was occluded with the front extending
southward through the Midwest and a cold front extending
southwestward through Alabama into the Gulf. A warm front extended
southeastward through Georgia before connecting to a stationary
boundary located along the East Coast. This stationary front was
connected to a surface low off of the coast of Maryland with a
central pressure of 1013 mb, or 29.91 inches of mercury. The
westward secondary low was accompanied by a secondary cold front
extending southward along the Mississippi Valley and into southern
Texas. National Weather Service Doppler radar and surface
observations indicated light to moderate snow and rain across the
Upper Midwest and Upper Great Lakes. In addition, light to
moderate rain was observed across portions of the Northeast. At
the same time, moderate to heavy rainfall was observed across
portions of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

This low pressure system will continue to progress northeastward
through the Upper Midwest/Great Lakes regions through Sunday
evening. Ahead of the fronts, moderate to heavy rainfall is
expected to continue across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast
throughout Sunday. This system is also expected to bring moderate
to heavy snowfall across the Upper Midwest and the Upper Great
Lakes through Sunday evening. Snowfall accumulations of up to 6 -
8 inches are possible for the Upper Great Lakes by Monday morning.
Additional rainfall accumulations of up to 0.5 inches are possible
across the East Coast through Monday morning.
The next storm summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 900 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
