Storm Summary Number 09 for Southwest to Midwest Winter Storm and
Lower Mississippi Valley Heavy Rainfall

...Ongoing snow and rain across the Upper Midwest and Upper Great
Lakes. Heavy rain for parts of the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.
Gusty winds increase across the Great Lakes and Midwest...
Winter Storm Warnings, Watches, and Advisories are in effect for
parts of the Northern Plains, Upper Midwest/Great Lakes, and Upper
Northeast.
Blizzard Warnings are in effect for parts of the Northern Plains
and the Upper Midwest/Great Lakes.
Flood Warnings are in effect for the Lower Mississippi Valley up
through the Tennessee/Ohio Valleys and Mid-Atlantic, as well as
parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley.
High Wind Warnings and Watches are in effect across the Great
Lakes and Northeast.

At 800 AM CST...A surface low with a central pressure of 982 mb,
or 28.99 inches of mercury, was located over southern Wisconsin.
The low was occluded with the front extending southward through
the Ohio/Tennessee Valleys and into a triple point low near
Atlanta, Georgia. A cold front extended from this low
southwestward through the Florida Panhandle and into the Gulf. A
warm front extended eastward through South Carolina before
connecting to a stationary boundary oriented along the East Coast.
This stationary front was connected to a surface low off near
Trenton, New Jersey with a central pressure of 1006 mb, or 29.71
inches of mercury. A secondary cold front extended southward along
the Ohio/Tennessee Valley and into southeastern Louisiana.
National Weather Service Doppler radar and surface observations
indicated light to moderate snow and rain across the Upper
Midwest/Great Lakes. In addition, light to moderate rain was
observed across portions of the Northeast. Meanwhile, moderate to
heavy rainfall was observed across portions of the Southeast and
Mid-Atlantic.

This low pressure system will continue to progress northeastward
through the Upper Midwest/Great Lakes regions through Sunday
evening. Ahead of the fronts, moderate to heavy rainfall is
expected to wind down in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast through
Sunday. This system is also expected to bring moderate to heavy
snowfall across the Upper Midwest and the Upper Great Lakes
through Sunday evening. Snowfall accumulations of up to 6 - 8
inches are possible for the Upper Great Lakes by Monday morning.
Additional rainfall accumulations of up to 1 inch is possible
across the East Coast through Monday morning.
