into northern New England...

Winter Storm Warnings are in effect across extreme northern New
Hampshire into central and northern Maine.

Ice Storm Warnings are in effect across northeastern New York,
Vermont and eastern Maine.

High Wind Warnings are in effect for far western New York.

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect from northeastern New York
into northern New England.

Wind Advisories are in effect from the northern Mid-Atlantic into
southern New England.

At 900 AM EST...an area of low pressure with a central pressure of
1003 mb, or 29.62 inHg, was located just north of Saranac Lake,
NY. From this low, a strong cold front extended southward along
the East Coast into the central Gulf of Mexico. A quasi-stationary
boundary and several embedded areas of low pressure extended to
the east across northern New England. National Weather Service
radar and surface observations indicated light to moderate snow
across northern Maine with a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain
just south over central Maine into far northern New Hampshire,
Vermont and extreme northeastern New York. All rain was located
over coastal Maine into central and southern New England.

The low pressure center over northern New York is forecast to
quickly track east off the coast of Maine by this afternoon. Light
to moderate snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected to continue
through the remainder of the morning across northern New England,
followed by light snow across northern New England into the early
afternoon.  Significant freezing rain with storm total
accumulations over 0.5 inches will be a concern across far
northeastern New York and portions of northern New England. The
greatest threat for additional heavy snow from this system will be
across northern Maine where an additional 3-5 inches are possible.
 The storm is forecast to exit northern New England by tonight.
