The low pressure centers over West Virginia and Tennessee are
forecast to intensify and consolidate into a single low which will
then track northastward toward the coast of New England on Friday.
Snow and wintry precipitation associated with the system will
continue to spread northeastward across the Lower Great Lakes and
New England today with expected snowfall totals of 4 to 8 inches
across the Lower Great Lakes. A mixture of snow and freezing rain
is expected for much of Upstate New York today, but as the system
intensifies, periods of heavy snow will develop over central and
northern New York into northern New England on Friday with total
accumulations of 12 to 24 inches possible for northern New England
by Saturday morning. On the southern edge of the snow, an extended
area of freezing rain and sleet could result in upwards of a
quarter of an inch of ice accumulation from northern
Pennsylvania/southern New York into central New England. Farther
south, the system will ingest moisture-laden air from the Gulf of
Mexico and produce several inches of heavy rain from the eastern
Gulf Coast through the interior Southeast into the Mid-Atlantic
through Friday morning.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 PM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
