Storm
NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD
1000 AM EST Fri Feb 07 2020
...Moderate to Heavy snow and freezing rain conditions impacting
parts of the Northern Mid-Atlantic and New York expanding into New
England...
Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for north-central Pennsylvania
much of central and Northern New York into northern New England.
Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for portions of the
Tennessee/Ohio Valley, New York, and Central New England through
Downeast Maine.
Flood Warnings are in effect across Northern Alabama,
South-central and Eastern Tennessee, portions of Upstate South
Carolina, as well as river basins across the Piedmount/Coastal
Plains of South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Southern
Maryland into the Delmarva Peninsula and Delaware Valley of PA/NJ.
For a detailed graphical depiction of the latest watches, warnings
and advisories, please see www.weather.gov
At 900 AM EST...A deepening surface low with pressure around 980
millibars or 28.94 inches of mercury was located around the
eastern panhandle of West Virginia. East of the surface low
thunderstorms were moving through southern Pennsylvania, central
Maryland into northern Virginia. A cold extends south of the low
through the Coastal Plains of North Carolina and South Carolina
providing strong gusty winds not associated with thunderstorms or
rainfall. A warm front or slow moving warm front extends from the
surface low toward the northeast across the Lehigh Valley toward
Long Island and Cape Cod into a weaker surface low in the Gulf of
Maine. North and west of the front but south of a slowly draping
Arctic cold front that extends from Northern Lower Michigan across
the extreme Northern New York and the Rooftop of Maine; National
Weather Service radar and surface observations indicated areas of
moderate to occasionally heavy snow with some ice/freezing rain
mixer was occurring in central PA, New York before it was all snow
across Northern New York into northern New England. Lighter snow
was observed across portions of the Ohio Valley with
stronger/heavier snow enhanced south of Lake Erie. RADAR mosaic
and observations indicated much of the heavier rainfall had exited
the CONUS, with exception to extremely far Southern Florida.

The low pressure area in the Mid-Atlantic states will continue to
advance northeast across the Southern Hudson river valley and
across Southern New England through this afternoon (Friday). Snow
and wintry precipitation associated with the system will continue
to spread across the lower Great Lakes region New England with
expected snowfall totals of 3 to 6 inches across the Lower Great
Lakes, mainly enhanced by Lake Effect bands. Periods of heavy snow
will continue across central and northern New York into northern
New England today with total accumulations of 12 to 18 inches
possible for northern New England though Saturday morning. On the
southern edge of the snow, an extended area of freezing rain and
sleet could result in upwards of a quarter of an inch of ice
accumulation from northern Pennsylvania/southern New York into
central New England.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 400 PM EST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
