The low pressure center over southern Texas is forecast to become
more consolidated as it moves quickly northeastward and
intensifies along the sharp front. The snow and wintry
precipitation associated with the system will shift northeastward
across the Midwest, the northern Ohio Valley, followed by the
lower Great Lakes tonight, reaching New England Thursday morning.
Snowfall amounts are expected to be mostly 6 inches or less across
the central Plains and into the Midwest. However, as the system
intensifies, more snow is forecast to impact New England where 12
to 18 inches of accumulation can be expected for the northern
portion through Saturday morning. On the southern edge of the
snow, an extended area of freezing rain and sleet could result in
ice accumulations increasing to a quarter of an inch across
central New England. Farther south, the system will ingest
moisture-laden air from the Gulf of Mexico which will result in
several inches of heavy rain from the eastern Gulf Coast through
the interior Southeast and into the Mid-Atlantic for the next
couple of days.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 300 PM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
