The low pressure center over Mississippi is forecast to intensify
as it moves quickly northeastward along the sharp front. The snow
and wintry precipitation associated with the system will continue
to spread northeastward across the Midwest, the northern Ohio
Valley, followed by the lower Great Lakes tonight, reaching New
England Thursday morning. Additional snowfall amounts are expected
to be 4 inches or less across the Midwest through tonight.
However, as the system intensifies, more snow is forecast to
impact New England Thursday and Friday with total accumulations of
12 to 24 inches possible for northern New England through Saturday
morning. On the southern edge of the snow, an extended area of
freezing rain and sleet could result in ice accumulations upwards
to a quarter of an inch across the Ohio Valley and into central
New England. Farther south, the system will ingest moisture-laden
air from the Gulf of Mexico and then deposit several inches of
heavy rain from the eastern Gulf Coast through the interior
Southeast into the Mid-Atlantic for the next couple of days.
The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 300 AM CST. Please refer to your local National Weather
Service office for additional information on this event.
