The low pressure center over the western Gulf of Mexico will track
to the northeast towards the western Florida Panhandle through
Thursday morning as the stationary front lifts north as a warm
front onshore in the Southeast. A second low pressure center will
form along the central Atlantic Florida coast and move north
towards the North Carolina coast as the stationary front lifts
north as a warm front over the Atlantic, eventually extending
eastward from the Outer Banks. This will become the dominant area
of low pressure and continue to the northeast off the Eastern
Seaboard through Friday. The trailing cold front will cross the
Gulf of Mexico and continue northeast across the Southeast
Thursday night into Friday. Moderate to heavy rain will continue
to move to the northeast through the Southeast ahead of the
lifting Gulf warm front. Further north in the much colder, Arctic
airmass, widespread snow will move to the northeast over the
Tennessee and Ohio Valleys overnight, reaching the Mid-Atlantic by
early Thursday morning and continuing on to New England Thursday
night into Friday. A wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain in the
transition zone will track from Louisiana and Mississippi across
the central Appalachians and Piedmont to north-central North
Carolina and central Virginia by Thursday morning as well. The
wintry mix will then overspread interior areas of the Mid-Atlantic
throughout the day Thursday and into Friday. Elsewhere, lighter
snow will move across the Midwest overnight and into early
Thursday. Farther south, a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing
rain is expected to develop across portions of southwest to
south-central Texas going through Thursday.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 900 AM CST, Thursday, February 18th. Please refer to
your local National Weather Service office for additional
information on this event.
