Through this Saturday, a continous feed of moisture from the Gulf
of Mexico is forecast to fuel additional thunderstorm development
over the region. Moreover, the area of disturbed weather over the
Gulf of Mexico has a 40% chance of developing into a tropical
cyclone, per the National Hurricane Center. The disturbance is
forecast to reach the northwest Gulf coast by late tonight, where
widespread 2-4" and locally 6" of rainfall is possible through
Saturday. Given the complete saturation of soils with ongoing
river flooding along the Texas and Louisiana coastal areas, heavy
rain could lead to flash, urban, and additional riverine flooding
across this region. In the event the National Hurricane Center
begins advisories for the Gulf system, a separate Storm Summary
will be issued for the tropical cyclone.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1000 AM CDT Sat May 22 2021. Please refer to your local
National Weather Service office for additional information on this
event.
