The stationary front currently located over the Mid-Atlantic is
forecast to remain in place through Saturday morning before moving
southward as a cold front starting later in the day on Saturday.
The upper-level trough is also forecast to remain in place into
Saturday before slowly breaking down as a ridge builds to the
west. As long as these features roughly remain in place, showers
and storms are forecast to continue across the region.
Additionally, the flow of rich, deep Gulf moisture will help to
maintain high levels of instability and support additional storm
development throughout the day Friday across the South. A Moderate
Risk for excessive rainfall is in effect Friday for portions of
the far east Ohio Valley and central Mid-Atlantic, with a slight
risk encompassing a broader area of the eastern Tennessee and Ohio
Valleys and Mid-Atlantic. These areas may see an additional 2-5
inches of rain, with localized totals over 6 inches possible.
There is a second Slight Risk area in effect for portions of
northern Mississippi and west-central Alabama, where localized
additional totals of 3 inches and higher are possible. Much of the
eastern U.S. within the influence of the upper-level trough is
under a Marginal Risk. For Saturday, Marginal Risks are in place
for portions of the Mississippi Valley, Appalachians, and
Southeast as a vort max rounds the upper-level trough and the cold
front pushes southward into the Southeast. Given the significant
rainfall already seen across the South into the Mid-Atlantic
region leading to saturated soils, any additional rainfall will
pose a risk for flooding.

The next Storm Summary will be issued by the Weather Prediction
Center at 1100 AM EDT Sat Jun 12 2021. Please refer to your local
National Weather Service office for additional information on this
event.
