At 900 PM CDT...An low pressure center with a minimum central
pressure of 984 mb, or 29.06 inches of mercury, was located along
the border between south-central North Dakota and north-central
South Dakota. An occluded front extended from this low pressure
center to the northeast to a secondary area of low pressure along
the North Dakota and Minnesota border, with a stationary front
extending east into the Great Lakes and a trailing cold front
extending south and west into the Middle Missouri Valley and
Central Plains. National Weather Service Doppler Radar and surface
observations indicated a broad area of moderate snowfall occurring
around the low pressure center, from the North Dakota and Canadian
border west into eastern Montana and south into northeastern
Wyoming and western South Dakota. The heaviest snowfall bands were
located across northwestern North Dakota. Surface observations
also indicated winds remained strong, with sustained winds across
the Northern and Central Plains between 25 to 35 miles per hour
and gusts as high as 50 to 60 miles per hour occurring in Wyoming
and Montana.
